Founded by Bob Gorman in 1989, Cometic is recognised worldwide as a leader in the design and manufacture of reinforced head gaskets. Like every product in the range, they are made in the United States. A Cometic reinforced head gasket is built from several pressed stainless steel layers held together by rivets. Cometic offers three types of head gasket:

This construction calls for a lower head bolt torque, which reduces bore distortion and spreads the clamping load more evenly across the whole gasket.

• MLS: the equivalent of the Athena MLS gaskets, these multi-layer gaskets (3 to 5 stainless steel layers depending on thickness) have embossed beads around the cylinders and the fluid passages.

• MLX: the same base as the MLS gasket, with an added reinforcement (a folded steel layer) around the cylinders and a special high-temperature coating.

• HP: an MLX gasket with one extra layer, added to improve the sealing of the cylinders (see below).
