The BMW 114i F20/F21 runs the 1.6 16V turbo N13B16A, the Prince block shared with MINI and PSA, and this page opens on its rotating assembly.
Forged pistons come in 77 and 77.5mm bores, with compression ratios from 9.3:1 to 12:1 and a 20mm gudgeon pin, in the SUPERTECH, WISECO, WÖSSNER and JE PISTONS ranges. The ZRP and WÖSSNER forged connecting rods are machined from 4340 steel and are fitted with L19 or ARP2000 bolts. A ZRP forged crankshaft completes the set.
Cylinder head parts, sealing and bearings for the same engine are covered on the neighbouring pages.
The BMW 116i F20/F21 built from 2015 to 2019 runs the B38B15A, a 1.5 12V turbo three-cylinder whose cylinder head is served here entirely by SUPERTECH.
The set of 12 intake valves and the set of 6 exhaust valves are supplied in the standard size, with no seat work required. The performance valve springs come in sets of 12, retainers included, to hold lift and engine speed on a tuned engine.
Valve stem seals and collets complete the page. No rotating assembly part is attached to this engine code to date.
The N13B16A of the BMW 116i F20/F21 is a 1.6 16V turbo with variable intake lift, and this page details its cylinder head.
Intake and exhaust valves are available in the standard size, the exhaust also in +0.80mm for a head that has already been reworked. The set of 16 valve guides, the stem seals and the performance springs are SUPERTECH. The 5mm single-groove collets are ordered in sets of 32, the full complement for all sixteen valves.
The bottom end, sealing and bearings for the same block are covered on the neighbouring pages.
The BMW 118i F20/F21 shares the three-cylinder B38B15A with the 116i, in its higher 136hp state of tune.
The SUPERTECH valve stem seals are listed separately for intake and exhaust: the B38 does not take the same part on both sides, and that is the most common ordering mistake on this block. Collets come in 5mm with one groove and in 6mm with one or three grooves, in sets of 12.
The selection stops at the cylinder head: no forged piston and no forged connecting rod is attached to this engine code to date.
On the N13B16A of the BMW 118i F20/F21, raising boost pressure puts head sealing to the test before anything else. That is what this page covers.
The MLS head gasket is offered as a COMETIC MLX with a 78.0mm bore in six compressed thicknesses from 0.81 to 1.32mm, and as an ATHENA MLS of 78.5mm in 0.90mm. ARP head studs come in the ARP2000 range, the main studs in 8740 and the con rod bolts in ARP2000.
Choosing gasket thickness means setting the compression ratio: decide it together with the piston size.
The BMW 120i F20/F21 carries the N13B16A in its highest state of tune, and it is the crankshaft line that is detailed here.
Big end and main bearings are offered as ACL RACE and KING RACING tri-metal shells, in standard size, in standard size with the wider HX clearance, then in +0.025, +0.026, +0.25 and +0.50mm for a reground crankshaft. The thrust washers, which take up end float rather than carry the journal, follow the same two brands.
Running clearance is measured with plastigage before reassembly; the size is never deduced from the look of the old shell.
The 2016 BMW 120i F20/F21 introduces the B48B20A, the 2.0 16V turbo of BMW's modular family, and this is the only Series 1 page carrying its dedicated head gasket.
The COMETIC MLX in 83.5mm comes in 0.81 and 1.02mm, listed for the B48B20A alone. Around it, forged pistons run from 82 to 83mm bore, with compression ratios from 9.5:1 to 11:1, a 22mm gudgeon pin and a 33.2mm compression height, in JE PISTONS, WÖSSNER and SUPERTECH. The ZRP and BOOSTLINE forged rods are fitted with L19, ARP2000 or CA625+ bolts.
SUPERTECH valves, springs and stem seals, ACL RACE bearings and NGK plugs complete the page.
The BMW 125i F20/F21 takes the 2.0 16V B48B20B to 224hp, and its build sheet matches the 184hp car bar one item: the 83.5mm COMETIC head gasket is not attached to this engine code.
Everything else is shared. Forged pistons cover 82 to 83mm bore, from 9.5:1 to 11:1, with a 22mm gudgeon pin, in JE PISTONS, WÖSSNER and SUPERTECH. The ZRP and BOOSTLINE forged rods are ordered with L19, ARP2000 or CA625+ bolts, and the ACL RACE big end bearings run from standard size to +0.25mm.
ARP2000 head and main studs, SUPERTECH valves and springs complete the set.
The BMW 125i F20/F21 with the N20B20 was sold from 2011 to 2019 in 218 and 238hp forms. Only two references are attached to it to date, and both target the connecting rod.
The ZRP forged rods are machined from 4340 steel and supplied with ARP2000 bolts, for a 2.0 16V turbo whose standard rod gives out well before the crankshaft. The tri-metal big end bearings come as ACL RACE without coating and as KING RACING with the pMaxKote anti-friction coating, from standard size to +0.50mm, with a wider HX clearance option.
The rest of the N20 build is not listed here yet.
The BMW M135i F20/F21 built from 2012 to 2015 runs the N55B30 straight six, and this page covers its cylinder head, where hard use is won or lost.
Valves come as FERREA stainless with three grooves and as SUPERTECH with one groove, the SUPERTECH exhaust being offered in sodium-filled Inconel, a material that carries heat out through the stem. Performance springs come from SUPERTECH and FERREA, stem seals from SUPERTECH, and collets are available in 5 and 6mm.
The head gasket is a COMETIC MLX of 85.0mm, from 0.81 to 1.52mm, or an ATHENA O-ring of 86.0mm in 1.50mm.
The 2015 model year BMW M135i F20/F21 takes the N55B30 to 326hp. This page details its bottom end.
Forged pistons cover 84 and 84.5mm bores, with compression ratios from 9:1 to 10.3:1 and a 22mm gudgeon pin, in the JE PISTONS, MANLEY, SUPERTECH and WÖSSNER ranges. Forged rods are chosen between an I beam from ZRP and MANLEY and an H beam from MANLEY, with L19 or ARP2000 bolts. Big end and main bearings are ACL RACE or pMaxKote-coated KING RACING tri-metal shells.
A DINAN sports air filter completes the page on the intake side.
The BMW M140i F20/F21 introduces the B58B30, a 3.0 24V turbo straight six shared with TOYOTA, and it is the best covered page in the Series 1 range.
Two forged piston sets sit side by side: the standard range from 82 to 83mm bore, 10.5:1 to 11:1, in JE PISTONS, WÖSSNER and DIAMOND, and a set dedicated to the 100mm stroker crankshaft, whose compression height drops to 30.5mm. The ZRP and BOOSTLINE forged rods take L19, ARP2000 or CA625+ bolts.
ATHENA O-ring or COMETIC MLX head gaskets, ARP2000 and CA625+ studs, SUPERTECH valves and springs, ACL RACE and KING RACING bearings complete the set.
