Set of 12 reinforced inlet valves for BMW S58B30 (M2 G87, M3 G80 G81, M4 G82 G83, X3 M, X4 M).
The S58B30 is the 3.0-litre, 24-valve twin-turbo straight six designed by BMW M. Since 2019 it has powered the X3 M and X4 M, then the G80 to G83 M3 and M4 and the G87 M2, with 460 to 560 hp depending on the version.
It has 12 original inlet valves, BMW part number 11 34 8 053 402. Higher turbo boost or a raised rev limit exposes them to more heat and harder impacts on their seats.
On every cycle, the inlet valve opens to let compressed air in, drops back onto its seat and slides in its guide. It runs between 400 and 550 °C: the chrome-silicon steel usually used for original valves falls from 500 MPa at 500 °C to 250 MPa at 600 °C, half its strength, 50 % less.
These FERREA valves belong to the Competition Plus series. The maker quotes 20 % more hot strength and fatigue resistance, and a seat life extended by 25 %. They come in standard size, with 3 grooves or a single groove.
A +0.5 mm version is also available: its head measures 30.6 mm instead of 30.1 mm, with the stem still at 5 mm. The wider opening lets more air in and the cylinder fills better, provided the inlet seats are recut to this size.

The single-groove F2473P must be fitted with K10122 collets. The F2431P and F2434P have 3 grooves and take 3-groove collets for a 5 mm stem.
For the +0.5 mm version, the inlet seats must be cut to the new size; at standard size, they are checked and recut as in any cylinder head rebuild.
Valve clearance is taken up hydraulically: no adjustment is needed after replacement.
| FERREA Racing Components has worked in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, since 1978, when two Argentine engine builders founded the workshop. Its valves are forged in one piece from bar stock, then fully CNC machined, and run in NASCAR engines as well as drag racing. |
The groove holds the collets that keep the valve under its retainer; their number sets which collets to use and how the valve copes as revs climb.
| Criterion | Option 1 | Option 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Size | Standard size 30.1 mm head, for inlet seats kept at factory size. | +0.5 mm oversize 30.6 mm head: about 10 to 12 cfm more per mm of head. Seats to be cut; also allows already reground seats to be recut. |
| Grooves | 3 grooves (F2431P, F2434P) Close to the original fitting, suited to road use; new 3-groove collets recommended. | Single groove (F2473P) K10122 collets clamp the stem and relieve the groove: better strength with stiffer springs. FERREA collets compulsory. |
