TOYOTA engines covered

The 2GR is Toyota's 3.5 litre 24-valve petrol V6 with twin overhead camshafts per bank. As the 2GR-FE it powers the Camry, Avalon, Aurion, RAV4, Previa, Highlander, Alphard and Sienna among others, from 204 to 328 hp; as the direct-injection 2GR-FSE, the Crown and Mark X from 296 to 318 hp.

The engine has 12 Toyota 13711-31100, 13711-31101 or 13711-0P010 inlet valves depending on the year, with a 5.470 to 5.485 mm stem and a 105.85 mm length, held by 90913-03028 or 90913-A3001 collets. Sharper camshafts, a supercharger or a raised rev limit load them well beyond stock use.

SUPERTECH reinforced inlet valves

Opened by the cam dozens of times per second at high revs, the inlet valve lets the fresh air through, then snaps back onto its seat and slides in its guide. It runs between 400 and 550 °C, a range where the original chrome-silicon steel drops from 500 MPa at 500 °C to 250 MPa at 600 °C: 50 % of its strength is gone.

SUPERTECH makes these valves from EV8 racing stainless steel, which holds 650 MPa at 500 °C and 550 MPa at 600 °C, 30 % and then 120 % more than the original steel. Black nitriding hardens the surface and makes it smoother: the stem wears less in its guide.

SUPERTECH supplies them in standard size: 38.0 mm head, 5.475 mm stem and 105.85 mm length, like the Toyota valve. They fit without cutting the inlet seats.

Fitting details

The number of grooves on the valve and on the collets must match: these single-groove valves are fitted with KPR-5.5-7A-ST collets, single groove, 5.5 mm, 7°.
