The 1ZZ-FE is Toyota's 1.8 litre twin-cam 16-valve four-cylinder, fitted to a long line of models, from the Corolla to the T23 Celica and the third generation MR2.

It has 8 exhaust valves, two per cylinder. The original Toyota valves (13715-22030, then 13715-22040, 13715-0D010, 13715-0D020 and 13715-22060 depending on the year) have a 5.465 to 5.480 mm stem and a 27.5 mm head on the 13715-22030, 26.0 mm on the 13715-22040 and 13715-0D020. The reinforced valve has a 27.5 mm head, a 5.46 mm stem and an 88.74 mm overall length.

SUPERTECH reinforced exhaust valves

On a naturally aspirated engine, the head of an exhaust valve reaches 760 to 870 °C, and more than 1,000 °C with a supercharger or a turbo. The seat removes about 75 % of that heat, the guide about 20 %. EV8 family steel, taken as the reference for the original, goes from 550 MPa at 600 °C to 300 MPa at 800 °C: a head that runs too hot fatigues, distorts and loses its seal.

The TEVN-1021-8 is made of black nitrided stainless steel: nitriding hardens the surface and reduces stem wear in its guide.

The TEVN-1021-8 is designed for the 1ZZ-FE of the Celica GT and Matrix from 2000.

Valve fitting

Before fitting, check that the existing collets suit the groove of the TEVN-1021-8.

The exhaust seats are reground and sealing is checked before the cylinder head goes back on.

All 8 valves of the set have the same 5.46 mm stem and the same 88.74 mm length.
