Unlike many of its competitors, who machine their cams from cast steel, CATCAMS cuts its camshafts from solid billet, which makes them far more durable. In most cases CATCAMS camshafts are hollow, in order to reduce their mass.

CATCAMS has built a worldwide reputation on camshafts and their related parts (valve springs, mechanical cam followers, vernier cam pulleys), thanks to its know-how and its detailed study of engines and applications. Each camshaft profile is developed around the characteristics of the engine, and around the intended use: road, sport, rally, run or circuit.

Two parameters drive the choice of a camshaft profile: valve lift and angle, that is, opening duration. Longer opening times raise power and torque, while more lift optimises power at high rpm.
