Set of 8 reinforced exhaust valves for the Mazda and Ford 2.0 FS.
The FS is Mazda's 2 litre 16-valve four-cylinder fitted from 1991 to 2006 to the 626 (generations III to V), the MX-6, the BJ generation 323 and the MPV II people carrier, with 115 to 140 hp depending on version.
Ford also used it in the Telstar 2.0 i from 1993 to 1999 and, in Australia, in the Telstar AX and AY from 1992 to 1996 and the Laser KQ 2.0 i in 2001 and 2002, with 116 to 133 hp.
It has 8 exhaust valves, two per cylinder, which take the heat of the burnt gases on every cycle.
On a naturally aspirated engine such as the FS, the metal of an exhaust valve head rises to 760 to 870 °C, and beyond 1,000 °C when turbocharged. The seat removes about 75 % of it, the guide nearly 20 %. An EV8 family steel holds 550 MPa at 600 °C but only 300 MPa at 800 °C: the head fatigues, distorts and sealing drops.
SUPERTECH offers two materials: a black nitrided EV16 stainless steel, whose hardened surface resists wear in the guide, and Inconel, a nickel base superalloy that keeps 860 MPa at 732 °C and 554 MPa at 816 °C, about 85 % more than EV8 family steel around 800 °C; Inconel is the material to choose when turbocharged.
Both sets have a 28.6 mm head, enlarged by 1 mm: burnt gases leave faster, the cylinder empties better and the engine gains power. The exhaust seats are machined to this size on assembly.
| Part number | Brand | Size | Head Ø | Stem Ø | Length | Grooves | Material |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MAEVN-2002-8 | SUPERTECH | +1 mm | 28.6 mm | 5.96 mm | 89.9 mm | Black nitrided EV16 stainless steel | |
| MAEVI-2002-8 | SUPERTECH | +1 mm | 28.6 mm | 5.96 mm | 89.9 mm | Inconel |
Both sets share the 28.6 mm head, the 5.96 mm stem and the 89.9 mm length; only the material changes.

Check the condition of the collets on reassembly and their fit in the stem groove.
The 5.96 mm stem slides in the guides: check their clearance and fit new valve stem seals.
The 28.6 mm head requires the exhaust seats to be machined to this size.
| SUPERTECH, an American maker of racing valvetrain parts, offers for the FS an exhaust valve with a head enlarged by 1 mm, in black nitrided stainless steel or Inconel. |
The two sets only differ by material:

| Material | MAEVN-2002-8 Black nitrided EV16 stainless steel, for a naturally aspirated engine. | MAEVI-2002-8 Inconel, the choice when turbocharged. |
