  • The 2.0-litre Volkswagen and Audi engines concerned

These kits cover the Volkswagen Group 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines: the 2.0 TFSI EA113 (AXX, BWA, BPY, CDLA, CDLC and their variants) and the 2.0 TSI or TFSI EA888 of all four generations (CCZA, CDNC, CHHB, CJXC, DNUE, among others), fitted since 2004 to Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Cupra, Skoda, Porsche and KTM models.

This ARP kit, offered in two part numbers, replaces the original rod bolt, part number WHT006219 (M8 x 1) on the EA113 and WHT001319B (M9 x 1.25) on the third and fourth-generation EA888: the 204-6302 in M8 serves the EA113 and the generation 1 and 2 EA888, the 204-6303 in M9 x 1.25 the generation 3 and 4 engines.

Reinforced ARP bolts for connecting rods

At every revolution, the rod bolt takes the pull of the rod and piston assembly, which tries to force the cap away through inertia. As original equipment, it is sized for stock power and is replaced at every strip-down.

The ARP2000 bolts of both part numbers are tightened to the stretch measured with a gauge, ARP's priority method, the torque being used only when no gauge is available. Material: ARP2000, an alloy steel developed by ARP, heat treated to 220,000 psi tensile strength, with threads rolled after heat treatment. Against classes 10.9 and 12.9 of original fasteners, between 150,800 and 176,900 psi minimum, the margin is 24 to 46%. The engine speed allowed by the ARP2000 bolts goes up to 9,500 rpm (calculated estimate).

ARP recommends tightening to a measured stretch, which gives a more accurate preload than torque alone, given as a fallback. Torque and stretch figures assume ARP lubricant.

Source of the torque and stretch figures: ARP 204-6302 and 204-6303 instruction sheets, in the revisions applicable at publication. The manufacturer's instruction sheets prevail in the event of any difference. Read the ARP 204-6302 instruction sheet; Read the ARP 204-6303 instruction sheet

No thread locker is called for by the ARP instruction sheet for this kit: the bolts are fitted with ARP Ultra-Torque grease, on the threads and under the head.

According to the ARP instructions, the big ends must be checked and resized with the fasteners in place; plan a visit to a machine shop.

    Measuring bolt stretch

Measuring the stretch of a rod bolt

Tightening to stretch means setting the preload on how much the bolt actually stretches, rather than on a torque affected by friction. With the bolt fitted, the dial gauge is placed on both its ends and the bolt is tightened until the stretch given in the table is read. It is the safest method on a highly tuned engine.

    Technical guide

Torque and stretch figures are only valid with ARP assembly grease, applied to the threads and under the head.

    The ARP brand ARP

ARP (Automotive Racing Products) came into being in the early 1970s, when Gary Holzapfel, who came from the aerospace industry, decided to tackle the engine failures caused in motorsport by inadequate fasteners. Today the brand produces thousands of part numbers in California for the cylinder head, the main bearings and the connecting rods, in materials suited to each application, with manufacturing known for its consistency.

    OEM reference (rod bolt): WHT006219 (M8 x 1); WHT001319B (M9 x 1.25)

Important: The thread depends on the engine generation, not on its displacement: choose the part number from the engine code in the table above, M8 for the EA113 and the generation 1 and 2 EA888, M9 x 1.25 for the generation 3 and 4 EA888. Engines under 2.0 litres and five-cylinder engines are not covered.

Why is it the most cost-effective solution?

As original equipment, the rod bolt is tightened by torque then angle up to its yield point, which stretches it permanently. In ARP2000, the ARP bolts, reinforced and stronger, accept clearly higher engine speeds and inertia loads: less risk of a fastener-related failure, and therefore an engine repair far more expensive than the kit avoided.

    Matching connecting rod bearings

To complete the bottom-end rebuild, we offer the connecting rod bearings intended for this engine.
