    These seals fit the inlet valves of Ford's turbocharged 16-valve 2.3 EcoBoost four-cylinder: Ford Focus IV ST 2.3 (N3DA, N3DB), Mustang 2.3 EcoBoost (C23HD0D, N38H, N48H), Explorer 2.3 (C23HDTX) and Everest II 2.3 (C23HD0D), 269 to 330 hp, from 2014.

    The 2.3 EcoBoost carries 8 inlet valves. Ford's original green seal 3S4Z-6571AA caps the guide and lets through to the stem only the oil it needs to slide.

    SUPERTECH inlet valve stem seals

    On the 2.3 EcoBoost inlet, the seal takes turbo pressure on one side and the head's oil mist on the other. Tired or hardened, it lets oil run into the ports and chamber: the dipstick drops at every check, bluish smoke comes with cold starts or with pick-up after a prolonged idle, and deposits build on valve heads and plugs. Too tight, it would starve the stem of lubrication.

    SUPERTECH produces the VSI-FECO20-I in blue Viton (FKM), 4.18 mm inside diameter, fitted on an 11 mm guide. The set of 8 covers the whole 2.3 EcoBoost inlet; the exhaust takes a separate part, VSI-FECO20-E, sold on its own.

    SUPERTECHA Californian workshop in San Jose active for over 30 years, SUPERTECH draws race valves and the springs, guides and seals that suit them. A series is approved only after ultrasound, X-ray and laser checks, then trials with leading engine builders.

    Inlet or exhaust?

    On the 2.3 EcoBoost, SUPERTECH provides two blue Viton (FKM) seals, one for the inlet (VSI-FECO20-I, 4.18 mm inside) and one for the exhaust (VSI-FECO20-E, 4.35 mm inside): they are not interchangeable. SUPERTECH rates this Viton at 204 °C (400 °F) continuous, plenty for the heat of a hard-working turbo engine. You need 8 seals of each.
