Set of 8 exhaust valve stem seals for VAG 1.8 and 2.0 16V KR, 9A and ABF, 7 mm stem.
These seals fit the 7 mm stem exhaust valves of the VAG 16-valve four-cylinders: 136 to 140 hp 1.8 16V KR, 136 hp 2.0 16V 9A and 150 hp 2.0 16V ABF. They are found in the Volkswagen Golf II and III GTI 16V, Jetta II, Scirocco, Corrado, Passat B3/B4 and Sharan, and in the Seat Toledo I, Ibiza II and Cordoba, from 1985 to 2000.
The head carries 8 exhaust valves, two per cylinder. The original seal surrounds the guide and meters the oil that lubricates the stem; VAG supplies it as 027 109 675, the same for all 16 valves.
On the exhaust of a KR, 9A or ABF, each of the 8 seals works next to a valve glowing red at full load. Cracked or stiff, it allows oil down the 7 mm stem into the 16V combustion chamber, which consumes it: the dipstick reads low, the tailpipe puffs blue and carbon coats valves and ports. It must still deliver a little oil, or stem and guide wear.
For the 16V exhaust, the American maker chose Viton (FKM), an elastomer able to last against the heat of the 8 exhaust valves; SUPERTECH says this material is what qualifies it for the highest temperatures, with 204 °C (400 °F) continuous. The seal caps a 9.8 mm OD guide and grips the 7 mm stem. This set of 8 fits the whole exhaust of a KR, 9A or ABF; for the inlet, SUPERTECH offers a polyacrylate (ACM) seal separately.

| SUPERTECH, a San Jose (California) firm for over 30 years, engineers parts for racing engines, among them valves, springs, guides and seals; every new part is first worked out with the finite element method, then tried by known engine tuners on drag strips and circuits. |
On the 16V KR, 9A and ABF, the 8 inlet and 8 exhaust seals are dimensionally identical; only the exhaust endures far greater heat. SUPERTECH gives that side the tougher Viton (FKM) VS-VW7-E, while polyacrylate (ACM) VS-VW7-I stays reserved for the inlet.
