New product
Set of 8 exhaust valve guides for Mazda 1.8 16V BP and L8 engines, 6 mm stem.
Intended for the exhaust side, this kit serves Mazda's 1.8 litre 16-valve engines: the BP of the MX-5 NA and NB, in naturally aspirated or turbo form, of the 323 BA and BW and of the Westfield, as well as the L8 from the MZR range fitted to the MX-5 NC, the Mazda 5 and 6 and the Ford Focus sold in China.
On the exhaust side the cylinder head has 8 valves. SUPERTECH part number GDE-MA18-E matches them: 6 mm stem, 11.057 mm outside diameter, 45.5 mm length. The kit groups the 8 guides needed for this side.
Exposed to hot gases, the exhaust guide keeps the valve well centred above the seat, carries a large part of the stem heat away into the cylinder head and holds the stem seal. As it wears, the stem floats, sealing at the seat deteriorates and oil slips down into the gases: blue smoke, frequent top-ups, reduced compression. A fifth leaves via the guide.
Machined by SUPERTECH from manganese bronze, these exhaust guides benefit from an alloy that, in the brand's words, sheds heat much faster than factory sintered guides. They are generally combined with reinforced valves. The kit supplies the 8 guides for the entire exhaust side.

Made of copper and zinc to which manganese, iron and aluminium are added, manganese bronze proves hard, barely affected by sliding wear and resistant to corrosion. These properties explain its use for bushes and guiding parts under high load.
