Set of 8 exhaust valve stem seals for the Ford Zetec 2.0 converted to 5.5 mm stems.
On the exhaust of the 16-valve Ford Zetec 2.0 converted to 5.5 mm stem valves and guides, this set takes the place of the standard seals. The four-cylinder powers the Ford Focus I 2.0 16V, the Australian LR Focus and the American 2.0 Escort and Focus.
The head has 8 exhaust valves, two per cylinder, each capped by a seal that meters the stem oil. Once the stem is brought down to 5.5 mm, a seal cut for that diameter is required.
At the exhaust, the valve sits in the hottest gases and its seal takes that heat cycle after cycle. When it crazes or loses its elasticity, it no longer restrains the oil, which slips down the stem and goes up in smoke with the gases: consumption climbs, the exhaust smokes blue and carbon builds up. A thin layer of oil is still essential, otherwise stem and guide would run dry.
FERREA moulds this exhaust seal in a high-temperature Viton (FKM) and adds a spring that presses its lip onto the 5.5 mm stem so oil stays contained when the engine is driven hard. The brand designs it for tuned and race engines. The 8 seals of the set cover the whole exhaust of the converted Zetec; for the inlet, FERREA offers another Viton seal, sold separately.

On the converted Zetec 2.0, the exhaust VS1000, in a high-temperature compound, and the inlet VS1001 share Viton (FKM), the lip spring and the 5.5 mm stem. FERREA gives each one its own side, and they are not swapped at assembly. The engine needs 8 of each.
