The 182A6.000 is the 1.6 litre four-cylinder with 16 valves and twin overhead camshafts of the first-generation Fiat Bravo and Brava, built from 1995 to 2001.

It has 8 inlet valves, originally 46 517 325, with a 30.4 mm head and a 7 mm stem. Sharper camshafts, higher revs or track use put more load on the seats and heads.

    FERREA reinforced inlet valves

The inlet valve lets the fresh charge in, drops back onto its seat every cycle and slides constantly in its guide, at 400 to 550 °C. A standard chrome-silicon steel then falls from 500 MPa at 500 °C to 250 MPa at 600 °C: it loses 50 % of its strength.

The FERREA 6000 series is EV8 stainless steel, which keeps 650 MPa at 500 °C and 550 MPa at 600 °C, 30 % then 120 % more than chrome-silicon steel. The valve therefore keeps its shape and a tight seat when the engine is pushed.

The +1 mm version takes the head from 30.5 to 31.5 mm with stem and length unchanged: air passes the seat more freely, the cylinders fill better and the engine gains power, once the 8 inlet seats are machined to that diameter.

On reassembly, check that the collets sit properly in the groove of the FERREA valves and replace any that are worn.

F6763 fits original seats that have been recut; F6765 requires the 8 inlet seats to be machined to 31.5 mm.

    Technical guide

    The brand offered

FERREAFounded in 1978, FERREA makes its competition valves in Florida and Argentina. Its EV8 stainless 6000 series targets tuned road engines and cylinder heads rebuilt for sporting use.

    How to choose

The groove is the recess at the end of the stem where the collets hold the upper retainer; it is the same on both valves offered, which differ only by the head:

    SizeStandard, 30.5 mm
Original seats kept or recut. F6763*8.
    +1 mm, 31.5 mm
10 to 12 cfm more per mm of head, seats machined; also restores seats already reground. F6765*8.

    When reinforced valves become necessary

    • Higher-lift camshafts or stiffer springs
    • Higher rev limit
    • Supercharger or turbo conversion
    • Cylinder head rebuilt for track, hillclimb or rally
    • Worn original valves or seats already reground

Important: a set of 8 covers a complete engine. The Bravo and Brava 1.4 12V, 1.8 16V and 2.0 20V use different valves.
