Set of 8 forged 4340 steel connecting rods for BMW M5 F10 / M6 4.4L 32V Twin-Turbo S63B44.
The BMW S63B44 is the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 (4,395 cc, 89 mm bore, 88.3 mm stroke) with 32 valves that powers the M5 (F10) and M6 (F06/F12/F13). With its two turbos nestled in the V ("hot-V" layout), it produces 560 to 600 hp depending on the version and up to 700 Nm, setting the torque bar very high.
While the block handles high output as standard, forced induction and remaps (Stage 1, Stage 2 and beyond) place heavy demands on the rotating assembly. Above a certain pressure level, the factory rods become the weak point. These forged connecting rods secure the bottom end for high power.
Machined from forged 4340 steel, these rods replace the factory parts as soon as boost pressure rises. Forging aligns the metal grain with the loads, giving far greater fatigue resistance and a welcome safety margin on a twin-turbo.
Each rod is shot-peened, inspected and weight-matched to ±1 g across all eight in the set. Supplied with ARP hardware, they cope with the cylinder-pressure increases from a big turbo, methanol or aggressive maps, without compromising reliability.

Manufacturers recommend the stretch-gauge method as the reference: the instructions supplied with the kit always take precedence. The torque figures correspond to assembly with ARP lubricant.
| 4340 steel, a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy, marries high mechanical strength with good ductility. Against the factory sintered metal, it gains about +19% yield strength, +8% tensile strength and +19 to +37% fatigue resistance. On a forced-induction engine, this means a rod that tolerates pressure peaks far better and endures repeated power increases. |
![]() | I-Beam profile. Its optimised central section lightens the rod while keeping high rigidity, a good compromise for a modern twin-turbo V8 combining strong torque and sustained rpm like the S63B44. |
The rod bolt bears most of the assembly's stress, further increased by forced induction. ARP offers two grades for this kit, depending on target boost and power.
| ARP 2000: the high-performance standard, with no storage constraints. Handles up to 200 hp per cylinder in 3/8" and 8,500 rpm. Ideal for circuit, trackday, drift, rally, drag and hillclimb — strength, reliability and versatility. | |
![]() | ARP L19: designed for engines pushed to the extreme — high boost pressure, sustained high rpm, elevated cylinder pressure. Up to 250 hp per cylinder in 3/8" and 10,000 rpm. Particularly suited to a high-flow twin-turbo. Sensitive to corrosion and hydrogen: store and fit it oiled. |

| In addition to torque tightening, measuring bolt stretch with a dial indicator remains the most reliable way to guarantee preload. The instructions supplied with the kit always take precedence. |
![]() | ZRP, a Greek specialist in high-performance forged connecting rods, machines its parts from 4340 steel and weight-matches them. For the S63B44, the range comes in I-Beam profile with ARP 2000 or ARP L19 hardware, depending on target boost and power. |

On a built S63B44, a rod failure — common when pressure exceeds the limit of the factory parts — leads to a heavy bill: block, labour, lengthy downtime.
For a controlled budget, making the rotating assembly reliable with a forged set from the start of the build avoids failure and its consequences. A preventive investment far cheaper than a rebuild.
For the same budget: a comfortable power margin, restored reliability and the peace of mind of a bottom end built to handle the big turbo. The most rational way to unlock the S63B44's potential.
