Set of 6 forged 4340-steel connecting rods for BMW 3.0L 24V Twin-Turbo S58B30.
The S58B30 is the 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six developed by BMW's M division for its most extreme models. Derived from the B58 but heavily reinforced, this 2,993 cc unit (84 mm bore, 90 mm stroke) features a 3D-printed cylinder-head core, two turbochargers and upgraded cooling. It produces from 460 to 550 hp depending on the variant and spins beyond 7,000 rpm. Launched in 2019, it first powered the X3 M and X4 M (F97, F98), then the M3 (G80), M4 (G82) and the M2 (G87).
Built for the track, the S58B30 handles high boost pressure and strong torque from low rpm. On builds that raise boost pressure, the rotating assembly works well beyond factory loads. Forged 4340-steel connecting rods then secure the bottom end and open the door to high power without sacrificing reliability.
Forging a connecting rod means hot-compressing a steel billet so the metal grain follows the loads it will face. This forming yields a part free of shrinkage cavities, with a tight structure that endures fatigue far better than a cast rod. After machining, shot-peening and balancing, the complete set supplied here fits straight on, ARP hardware included. The goal is clear: to withstand the pressure spikes and sustained rpm of a tuned S58B30.
| Reference | Brand | Profile | Hardware | Pin diameter OEM 23 mm | Small-end width | Big-end diameter OEM 53,6 mm | Big-end width | Center-to-center OEM 151 mm | Weight per rod |

| Rod | Hardware | Max. torque (without gauge) | Expected stretch (with gauge) |
|---|---|---|---|
| ZRP (R-BMW-024-I) | ARP 2000 | 61 N·m | 0.140 to 0.152 mm |
| ZRP (R-BMW-024-I-L19) | ARP L19 | 67,8 N·m | 0.152 to 0.165 mm |
Manufacturers recommend the stretch-gauge method as the reference: the instructions supplied with the kit always prevail. The torque figures assume assembly with ARP lubricant.
| 4340 is a low-alloy nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel, chosen for its balance of strength and toughness. Against the sintered metal fitted as standard, it gains around 19% in yield strength, nearly 8% in tensile strength and 19 to 37% in fatigue life depending on heat treatment. This mechanical reserve is exactly what an S58B30 with raised boost pressure demands. |
![]() | I-Beam : a slim, ribbed beam, valued for its low weight and eagerness to rev. This is the profile ZRP chose for this S58B30 kit. |
| ARP 2000 : high-performance hardware with no storage constraints. It covers up to 200 hp per cylinder in 3/8" and a maximum of 8,500 rpm. A robust, versatile choice for track, trackday, drift, rally, drag and hillclimb. | |
![]() | ARP L19 : made for engines pushed to the extreme (high boost pressure, sustained high rpm, high cylinder pressure). It handles up to 250 hp per cylinder in 3/8" and 10,000 rpm. Sensitive to corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement, it must be stored and fitted oiled. It's the hardware for big-power builds: drag, drift, rally and track. |

| Measuring bolt stretch remains the most reliable way to achieve correct preload, since it does not depend on thread friction. A dedicated dial gauge sits on the bolt and reads its actual elongation: tighten until you reach the stretch value recommended by the manufacturer. |

Opening up an S58B30 to reinforce its bottom end takes parts and many shop hours. Using that job to fit forged rods avoids going back in: the rotating assembly is secured once and for all, the crankshaft and block are preserved, and the money already spent is protected. It's the assurance of an engine ready to handle the intended build, with no second teardown.
