Applicable Toyota and Lexus engines

This kit fits the inlet side of the 3.0 litre 2JZ straight-six: the naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE in the Lexus GS300, IS300 and SC300 or the Toyota Aristo and Soarer, and the twin-turbo 2JZ-GTE in the Supra.

The twin-cam cylinder head carries 12 inlet valves, so it takes 12 guides. The original valves, Toyota references 13711-46021, 13711-46022 and 13711-46030, have a 6 mm stem, and that stem sets the bore of the guide.

FERREA and SUPERTECH inlet valve guides

In the 2JZ head every inlet valve slides in a guide that keeps it square to its seat, draws part of its heat away and carries the stem seal. As soon as clearance opens up, the valve tilts, seats unevenly and lets oil through: bluish smoke under acceleration, a falling oil level, weaker compression.

FERREA turns its guides from an American copper-bronze alloy and, according to its catalogue, finishes them with an in-house heat treatment that helps shed heat, resist wear, withstand high temperatures and lubricate the stem. CNC machining holds close tolerances, and the guides work with titanium or stainless steel valves. The SUPERTECH manganese bronze guide is 38.5 mm long, 11.03 mm in outside diameter, and takes the 6 mm stem. The FERREA references VG1035*12 and VG1036*12, like the SUPERTECH reference GDE-T2JZ-I-12, are sold in lots of 12, one full set for the cylinder head. They usually go in alongside uprated valves.

Standard or oversize?

FERREA offers two sizes: standard and 0.025 mm (0.001") oversize. The SUPERTECH guide carries no size marking; outside diameter 11.03 mm.
