Unlike many of its competitors, which machine their cams from cast steel, CATCAMS cuts its camshafts directly from billet, which makes them far more durable. In most cases CATCAMS camshafts are hollow in order to reduce their mass.
CATCAMS expertise in camshafts and related components (valve springs, mechanical cam followers, vernier cam pulleys, etc.) has been recognised worldwide for many years, thanks to genuine know-how and a detailed study of engines and their applications. Each camshaft profile has been developed to suit the specific features of every engine, but also the intended use (road, sport, rally, drag, circuit, etc.).
Two parameters matter when choosing a camshaft profile: valve lift and angle (opening duration). Longer opening times increase power and torque, while greater lift optimises power at high rpm.
