The second generation Mitsubishi Eclipse (D3_A) uses, in 2.0 RS form from 1995 to 1999, the 420A, a 16-valve 2.0.

This engine has 8 exhaust valves. The set offered is in standard size, with a 30.7 mm head, a 5.95 mm stem and a 110 mm overall length.

On a naturally aspirated engine, the head of an exhaust valve reaches 760 to 870 °C, above 1,000 °C when turbocharged or supercharged. The seat removes about 75 % of the heat, the guide about 20 %. An EV8 family exhaust steel falls from 550 MPa at 600 °C to 300 MPa at 800 °C: the head overheats, fatigues, distorts and stops sealing.

The MEVN-1420-8 is stainless steel with a chrome coating.

Before reassembly, check that the collets suit the lock groove of the MEVN-1420-8.

In standard size, the MEVN-1420-8 fits exhaust seats cut at 30.7 mm.

Clearance between the 5.95 mm stem and the guides is checked during the cylinder head rebuild.
