Set of 8 reinforced inlet valves for HONDA B18A and B18B (Integra, Civic, Domani, Orthia).
The B18A and B18B are Honda's 1,834 cc 16-valve four-cylinder engines, from 131 to 146 hp depending on version. They power the Integra (DA9, DB1, DB7 and DC2 coupé), the Civic IV Shuttle 1.8, the Civic V and VI 180i, the Domani and the Orthia, from 1988 to 2001.
Each engine has 8 Honda 14711-PR4-A00 inlet valves (14711-P75-000 on the 1997 to 1999 B18B1), held by 14781-PL2-004 collets. Sharper camshafts, stiffer springs or a higher rev limit load them well beyond stock use.
The inlet valve opens the way for fresh air dozens of times per second at high revs, strikes its seat at every closing and slides constantly in its guide. It runs between 400 and 550 °C, where the original chrome-silicon steel falls from 500 MPa at 500 °C to 250 MPa at 600 °C, 50 % of its strength lost.
SUPERTECH valves are made from a racing stainless steel of the EV8 family, which keeps 650 MPa at 500 °C and 550 MPa at 600 °C, 30 % and then 120 % more than the original steel. Black nitriding makes the surface harder and smoother: the stem rubs and wears less in the guide.
SUPERTECH also offers a +0.5 mm oversize: 31.5 mm head instead of 31.0 mm, stem and length unchanged. The opening at the seat widens and the cylinder fills better, provided the inlet seats are cut to this size.
| Part number | Brand | Size | Head Ø | Stem Ø | Length | Grooves | Material |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HIVN-1004-0-8 | SUPERTECH | Standard | 31.0 mm | 6.57 mm | 105.4 mm | Black nitride stainless steel | |
| HIVN-1004-8 | SUPERTECH | +0.5 mm | 31.5 mm | 6.57 mm | 105.4 mm | Black nitride stainless steel |
HIVN-1004-0-8: undercut stem under the head and back cut.
| Part | HONDA original | Reinforced |
|---|---|---|
| Collets | 14781-PL2-004 | |
| Valve stem seals | 12210-PT2-003 / 12211-PT2-003 | |
| Valve guide | 12204-PR4-A01 |
The +0.5 mm size needs inlet seats cut to 31.5 mm, workshop work to plan with the cylinder head rebuild.
Valve clearance is adjustable: after replacing the valves, check and set it (0.08 to 0.12 mm cold on the inlet side for the B18B1).
| SUPERTECH works out of San Jose, California, and has supplied valvetrain parts for racing engines for more than 30 years: valves, springs, retainers and guides. Each part number starts from a specific cylinder head, goes through ultrasound, X-ray and laser checks, then is proven with engine builders, from drag strip to circuit. |
The size is chosen according to the condition of the inlet seats in the cylinder head and the airflow gain wanted.
| Criterion | Option 1 | Option 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Size | Standard size 31.0 mm head, for inlet seats still at factory size. | +0.5 mm oversize 31.5 mm head: more air in (about 10 to 12 cfm per mm of head). Seats to be cut; also makes up for seats already reground. |
