MINI and PSA engines concerned

The 1.6 litre 16-valve engine developed by BMW and PSA powers the MINI R55 to R61 range under the codes N12B16A, N14B16, N16B16A and N18B16, and a large number of Peugeot, Citroën and DS models under the codes EP6, EP6C, EP6DT and EP6DTS, naturally aspirated or turbocharged.

For this engine family SUPERTECH lists a single part number that serves the inlet and the exhaust side: 5.0 mm bore, 9.02 mm outside diameter, 44.9 mm length. The kit contains two sets of 8 guides, which makes the 16 guides of the cylinder head.

The guide keeps the valve square to its seat, lets it slide without excess clearance, carries part of the stem heat away into the head and supports the seal. Once the bore wears, the valve rocks and lands crooked; oil then creeps into the chamber along the stem: blue smoke under acceleration, a falling oil level, uneven compression.

SUPERTECH machines these guides in bronze for cylinder heads fitted with reinforced valves. The two sets of 8 supplied with the kit cover the whole head, inlet and exhaust together. One part number serves both sides, which rules out any mix-up when ordering.

Remember the valve stem seals

A change of guides goes together with new valve stem seals. The original seal of these engines carries the MINI part number 11 34 0 033 950.
