Under the body of the Ford GT, the URWA is the 3.5 litre EcoBoost V6 with two turbochargers, 24 valves and twin overhead camshafts per bank. Sold from 2016, the supercar gets 600, 630 or 657 hp from it depending on the version.

Each cylinder head takes 6 inlet valves, 12 for the engine. Raised boost or a higher rev limit put far more heat and impacts on them than stock use.

FERREA reinforced inlet valves

The inlet valve opens the way to the air compressed by the turbos, strikes its seat at every closing and slides constantly in its guide, between 400 and 550 °C. An original chrome-silicon steel goes there from 500 MPa at 500 °C to 250 MPa at 600 °C: it loses 50 % of its strength.

These FERREA valves come from the Competition Plus range and are made from a special alloy. The range gains 20 % in hot strength and fatigue resistance and extends seat life by 25 %.

The F2401P*12 keeps the 37 mm head of the standard size; the F2402P*12 takes it to 38 mm, with the same 5.48 mm stem and the same 97.65 mm length. That extra millimetre enlarges the area offered to the air and improves filling, once the 12 inlet seats are cut to this size.

Fitting details

The VG1104 and VG1105 guides are fitted with the SL1155 valve stem seal, which includes the spring seat.

The 38 mm F2402P*12 needs inlet seats cut to its size; the 37 mm F2401P*12 fits seats reconditioned to the factory size.

Based in Florida since it was founded in 1978, FERREA Racing Components starts each valve from a single-piece forged bar, then machines it entirely on CNC equipment. Its valves run in NASCAR as well as in drag racing.

Both sets share the material, stem and length: only the size has to be chosen.
