Exhaust valve guides BMW Toyota B58B30

Applicable BMW and Toyota engines

This set is fitted on the exhaust side of the 3.0-litre turbo straight-six B58, as the B58B30B and B58B30C at BMW, as the B58B30O1 at Toyota for the GR Supra, and on the INEOS Grenadier.

The 12 exhaust valves of the engine, grouped in one cylinder head, each run in their own guide. The original BMW exhaust valve 11 34 8 621 264 has a 28.5 mm head and a 6 mm stem, which the guide bore matches.

FERREA and SUPERTECH exhaust valve guides

On the exhaust side, the valve stem takes the heat of the burnt gases. The guide holds it on the axis of the seat, sends part of that heat into the head and supports the stem seal. Once worn, it lets the valve tilt: it seals less well, oil reaches the port, and you see blue smoke, oil top-ups and weaker compression.

The FERREA catalogue presents a bronze alloy of American origin, built on copper and given a heat treatment specific to the brand which, it says, improves heat removal, hot-running stability, wear resistance and lubricity. Precise CNC machining suits titanium or stainless steel valves alike. SUPERTECH offers its own guide of 47 mm, with a 10.045 mm outside diameter, for the 6 mm stem. FERREA VG1113*12 and VG1114*12, along with SUPERTECH GDE-BMB48-E6-12, form sets of 12 guides, the complete exhaust side of the head. They usually go with reinforced valves.

Standard or oversize?

Two sizes at FERREA: standard and 0.025 mm (0.001") oversize. For SUPERTECH, no size is stated; the guide's outside diameter is 10.045 mm.
