Inlet valve guides BMW Toyota B58B30

Applicable BMW and Toyota engines

This set fits the inlet side of the 3.0-litre turbo straight-six B58, built by BMW as the B58B30B and B58B30C and by Toyota as the B58B30O1 for the GR Supra. It also suits the INEOS Grenadier.

A single cylinder head carries all 12 inlet valves of the engine, hence 12 guides. The original BMW inlet valve 11 34 7 633 699 has a 30.1 mm head and a 5 mm stem: that stem sets the bore of the guide.

FERREA and SUPERTECH inlet valve guides

In the B58 head, the stem of every inlet valve slides in a guide that centres it on the seat, draws off part of its heat and holds the stem seal. Once the clearance opens up, the valve leans over, closes badly and lets oil run down: bluish smoke, a thirsty engine and falling compression.

FERREA machines its guides in a copper-based bronze that is of American origin; the brand states in its catalogue that its in-house heat treatment improves heat removal, high-temperature stability, wear resistance and lubricity. The guides are CNC machined to tight tolerances and work with titanium valves as well as stainless ones. On the SUPERTECH side, the guide is 42 mm long with a 10.045 mm outside diameter and takes the 5 mm stem. FERREA VG1115*12 and VG1116*12, like SUPERTECH GDE-BMB48-I-12, are sold in sets of 12, which covers every inlet guide of the head. Most owners pair them with reinforced valves.

Standard or oversize?

FERREA offers a standard size and a 0.025 mm (0.001") oversize. The SUPERTECH guide has no stated size; its outside diameter is 10.045 mm.
