Toyota Supra 7M-GTE engine covered
The 7M-GTE is the turbocharged 3.0 litre straight-six with 24 valves and twin overhead camshafts fitted to the Toyota Supra MA70 built from 1987 to 1993. Its mechanical tappets are set with shims.
The kit replaces the original spring, its upper retainer and its lower spring seat; the factory collets are reused.
SUPERTECH reinforced valve spring kit
On a turbocharged straight-six the valve must reseat promptly. If the spring lacks force, the valve skips back off its seat and may even meet the piston: valve float, a real risk once revs and boost both rise.
Seat pressure: 227 N at 36.0 mm for the SPRK-TC25S-24 (single spring) and 298 N at 36.0 mm for the SPRK-TC25D-24-2 (double springs).

Both SUPERTECH kits include RET-2500/T1 upper retainers and SS-3012 lower spring seats, the SPRK-TC25S-24 with a single SPR-TC25S spring, the SPRK-TC25D-24-2 with double springs. The latter adds VS-T6SM stem seals and GDE-T4AG-SM guides; the original collets are kept.
With the valve closed, the distance between lower spring seat and upper retainer is the installed height. A quoted load holds only at its stated height; if machining the head enlarges that dimension, force is lost at the spring rate for each extra millimetre. Both kits appear below at 36.0 mm, each carrying its own seat load in newtons.

Our brands
| SUPERTECH is a California maker of valvetrain components for racing, active for more than thirty years. Spring batches go through laser, ultrasonic and X-ray checks before dispatch, so an internal flaw does not slip through quality control and reach the customer. |
How to choose
A boosted 7M-GTE calls for suitable springs as soon as you raise the pressure, change the camshaft or want to rev higher: enough force lets the valve follow the cam lobe all the way down. The kits give 227 N (single) and 298 N (double) at the seat, at the height shown above. Choosing harder than necessary brings nothing and tires cams and mechanical tappets. SUPERTECH gives no maximum lift for these kits: ask us for advice before pairing one with a very high-lift camshaft.
| Criterion | Key point |
|---|---|
| Choosing the pressure | The 51 and 67 lb marks indicate the force the spring applies to the closed valve, converted to newtons in the table. Three parameters matter: cam travel, the top revs aimed for and turbo pressure. If the load is too low the valve floats; if it is too high, the valvetrain wears. |
| Single or double spring | With the SPRK-TC25S-24, one spring per valve and a firmness near the original; the SPRK-TC25D-24-2 stacks two springs, so it is firmer, and adds GDE-T4AG-SM guides and VS-T6SM stem seals, to be fitted together. |
When reinforced springs become necessary
- Camshaft with more lift than the stock one
- Boost pressure raised on the turbocharger
- Rev limiter moved up to allow higher revs
- Head reworked ahead of intensive use
- Original springs worn by high mileage
