This kit fills the inlet side of the cylinder heads of the Toyota 1GR-FE 4.0 litre V6, a 24-valve engine with variable valve timing found in the Land Cruiser Prado, Hilux, Fortuner, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Tacoma, Tundra and the Lexus GX 400. The engine has twelve inlet valves, hence twelve guides.

Toyota gives these guides a bore of 5.51 to 5.53 mm, for an inlet valve stem of 5.470 to 5.485 mm. The exhaust guides for the same engine have their own page.

Each inlet valve of the V6 runs in a guide that re-centres it on its seat at every opening, hands the heat picked up along the stem to the head and houses the stem seal. As the bore wears, the stem rocks, the valve closes crookedly and vacuum pulls oil into the chamber: blue smoke and weaker compression.

FERREA's American copper bronze goes through an in-house heat treatment whose effect, the catalogue says, shows in lubrication, stem cooling, wear and high-temperature strength. Machined by CNC to precise dimensions, these guides are happy with titanium or stainless valves alike. The kit of 12 covers the twelve inlet valves of both cylinder banks. They are usually fitted alongside reinforced inlet valves.
