The Huracán uses a naturally aspirated 5.2 litre 40-valve V10 (codes CSJB, DKB and DKBA), fitted to the LP 580-2, LP 600-4 and LP 610-4 and to the Spyder versions.

The engine has 20 exhaust valves, two per cylinder. This V10 revs high and its exhaust valves see a constant flow of very hot burnt gases, a load that rises further with a turbo or supercharger.

FERREA reinforced exhaust valves

Naturally aspirated, an exhaust valve head reaches 760 to 870 °C; with forced induction it passes 1,000 °C. About 75 % of that heat leaves through the seat and 20 % through the guide. An EV8 family steel keeps 550 MPa at 600 °C but only 300 MPa at 800 °C: the head then distorts, fatigues and no longer seals as well.

The FERREA valve is made in Super Alloy, the nickel-based alloy of the Competition Plus range, quoted 20 % stronger when hot, with a seat life extended by 25 %.

Valve fitting

Collets and valve stem seals are checked on refitting: they must match the groove and the 5.97 mm stem of the valve.

With the head staying at 27 mm, the 20 exhaust seats keep their factory size.

The collets, valve stem seals and guides remain those of the original engine.
