This full set of 16 seals fits the F4R, the naturally aspirated 16-valve 2.0 with 5.5 mm stems that powers the Renault Clio Renault Sport: Clio II RS (F4R730, F4R736, F4R738, 169 to 179 hp, 2000 to 2009) then Clio III RS (F4R830, F4R832, 197 to 200 hp, 2006 to 2014).

Renault fits one and the same seal, 7700103938, to the 8 inlet and 8 exhaust valves of the F4R; SUPERTECH replaces it with an integral seal that is also shared by both rows. The 16 pieces therefore redo the whole head; each seal sits over the guide and meters the stem's oil.

On an F4R that is often revved hard to the top of its range, the seal must keep a very thin oil film on the 5.5 mm stem and hold the rest inside the head. Repeated heat ends up baking the rubber, which no longer grips: the F4R needs topping up between oil changes, the Clio leaves a bluish cloud when the cold F4R fires up or as it moves off after idling for a long time, and its 16 valves and 4 plugs gather carbon.

An integral SUPERTECH part, the F4R's VSI-D5.5E in Viton (FKM) matches the F4R's 11 mm guide and 5.5 mm stem. With its 16 pieces, this set replaces the 7700103938 seals of both F4R rows, inlet and exhaust, at once.

The brand offered

For over 30 years, the Californian firm SUPERTECH, in San Jose, has made race valves and supplies the springs, guides and seals to go with them. Ultrasound, X-ray and laser approve every run, which recognised engine builders then prove on benches and circuits.

Inlet or exhaust?

For the F4R730, F4R736, F4R738, F4R830 and F4R832, SUPERTECH offers one item: its integral VSI-D5.5E in Viton (FKM) fits the 8 inlet valves and the 8 exhaust valves alike, 5.5 mm stem and 11 mm guide on both sides. SUPERTECH quotes 204 °C (400 °F) in continuous use for this Viton, a real plus on the F4R exhaust side. One set of 16 does the F4R.
