These guides fit the exhaust side of the Nissan SR20DE, the naturally aspirated 2.0 litre, 16-valve, twin-cam four-cylinder used in models such as the Primera, Sunny, Almera, Bluebird, Serena, Silvia and 200SX.

The 8 exhaust valves each slide in a pressed-in guide, Nissan part number 13213-53J60. Once finished, these guides have a bore of 6.000 to 6.018 mm according to Nissan; their outside diameter ranges from 10.023 to 10.034 mm in standard size and from 10.223 to 10.234 mm in repair size.

At the exhaust, the guide keeps the valve centred on its seat, directs the intense heat reaching the stem towards the cylinder head and gives the stem seal something to bear on. When it wears, play builds up, the valve closes less well on its seat and oil slides down the stem: blue smoke, oil consumption and falling compression follow.

SUPERTECH produces these guides by precise machining in manganese bronze; the brand states that this copper-based alloy dissipates heat far more efficiently than an original sintered part. The kit contains the 8 exhaust guides of the cylinder head and generally goes with reinforced valves.

Manganese bronze

In manganese bronze, copper and zinc are supplemented with iron, aluminium and manganese. Mechanically strong and little affected by wear or corrosion, the alloy is used to make bushes and guiding components that have to bear heavy loads.
