The sharpest version of the Samba, the Rallye built from 1983 to 1986 takes the XY8 to 79bhp and was designed to be homologated for competition. Four live references, chosen for that job, sit directly on this page: the CATCAMS Sport camshaft shared with the CITROËN Visa GT and the PEUGEOT 205, CATCAMS uprated valve springs listed for the XY8 and the TU24, ACL thrust bearings and ACL trimetal big end bearings. That is the honest minimum for rebuilding an XY8 meant to be revved without neglecting how the crankshaft is held.
