Built from 1981 to 1986, the standard Samba 1.4 8V makes 72bhp from the XY8, the same block as the Rallye version but in its original specification. The four live references on this page are aimed first at restoring a classic engine: ACL trimetal big end bearings and ACL thrust bearings to recover correct clearances on reassembly, CATCAMS uprated valve springs for a tired cylinder head, and the CATCAMS Sport camshaft if you want to wake the engine up without taking it out of character. All four parts are shared with the PSA TU24.
