The bi-metal offered by KING is made up of two distinct layers of different metals, each one with specific properties that maximise durability and engine performance.

    1. Structure of the bi-metal:

    • Inner layer: this layer is generally made of bronze or a copper-based alloy, specially designed to offer good wear resistance, good thermal conductivity and the ability to keep the bearing shell intact at high temperature.
    • Outer layer: the outer layer is often a harder metal such as tin alloy, which provides good corrosion resistance, low friction and good lubrication behaviour.

    2. Benefits of the KING bi-metal:

    • Less wear: the bi-metal delivers excellent wear resistance by spreading the load across the two metal layers, which extends the service life of the big end bearings.
    • High load capacity: using two different materials means the high mechanical forces generated inside an internal combustion engine are better handled, reducing the risk of premature bearing damage.
    • Better heat dissipation: the bi-metal allows more efficient heat dissipation, which is critical in modern engines where operating temperatures can be particularly high.
    • Optimised lubrication: thanks to the combination of materials, KING bi-metal bearing shells offer an ideal surface for oil retention and friction reduction.

    3. Applications:

This type of bearing is commonly used in high performance engines, including race car engines, competition engines and modified engines. It is specially designed for engines subjected to heavy dynamic and thermal loads.

The bi-metal offered by KING is an advanced technical solution combining the properties of metallic materials to deliver longer service life, better wear resistance and optimal thermal management in big end bearings. It is an important step forward for modern engines that need high performance components to work efficiently under extreme stress.
