This kit concerns the exhaust side of the Nissan VR38DETT, the 3.8 litre twin-turbo V6 with four camshafts fitted to the GT-R R35 from late 2007 onwards, the NISMO version included.

On the exhaust side, the two cylinder heads carry 12 valves, each in its own pressed-in guide; Nissan numbers the original guide 13213-JF06A. All 12 are replaced by this kit.

At the exhaust, the guide keeps the valve true to its seat, channels the fierce heat reaching the stem into the cylinder head and gives the seal its support. With wear, the valve starts to hammer: sealing at the seat weakens, oil reaches the stem, bluish smoke shows and compression falls away.

FERREA starts these guides from an alloy combining copper and bronze from the United States; the brand applies its own heat treatment, which its catalogue credits with better heat transfer, limited wear, resistance to high temperatures and improved lubrication. Their accurate CNC machining takes both titanium and stainless valves. The kit holds the 12 exhaust guides of the VR38DETT. They usually go in with reinforced valves.

Standard or oversize?

For this guide FERREA provides a standard size and a 0.0254 mm oversize; measuring the bores in each head decides which one to fit.
