On the Nissan VR30DDTT, a 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 with 24 valves and 5.5 mm stems, this set replaces the original exhaust seals. The engine is used in the Infiniti Q50 and Q60, the Nissan Skyline V37 and the Nissan Z (Z34).

Its two heads hold 12 exhaust valves, two per cylinder. The seal fitted on each guide at the factory regulates the oil that lubricates the stem; its Nissan number is 13207-00Q0A.

FERREA exhaust valve stem seals

On the exhaust, the seal works against a valve swept by the hottest gases in the engine. As it ages, shrinks or cracks, it holds oil poorly; the oil travels along the stem and burns with the gases: consumption grows, the smoke turns blue and carbon spreads over valves and ports. It must still leave a light film of oil, otherwise stem and guide wear out.

The FERREA exhaust seal is moulded in Viton (FKM), a material with high heat resistance, and equipped with a spring that keeps the lip tight on the 5.5 mm stem to contain oil when the V6 is pushed. These seals are designed for heavily stressed and competition engines. The set of 12 covers every exhaust valve of both heads; the FERREA inlet seal, also in Viton, is offered separately.

FERREA develops and builds its own valvetrain parts, from valve to seal, in factories set up in Florida and Argentina. Racing and highly tuned engines are its main target; thanks to their spring, its Viton seals hold up well under severe stress.

Inlet or exhaust?

The exhaust VS1033 and the inlet VS1034 share Viton (FKM) and the lip spring; FERREA nonetheless draws each of them for one side of the VR30DDTT, 5.5 mm stem included, so they are never swapped at assembly. This twin-turbo V6 has 12 exhaust and 12 inlet seals.
