    This set fits the 5 mm stem inlet valves of the Toyota 4A-GE 20-valve, Silver Top then Black Top, from 139 to 165 hp: Corolla AE92 and AE101, Corolla Levin and Sprinter AE101 and AE111, Corolla Wagon AE101G and Carina VII AT210, from 1987 to 2001.

    Each cylinder of this 4A-GE has three inlet and two exhaust valves, so 12 seals on the inlet side. The seal caps the guide and only lets through the oil the 5 mm stem needs.

    SUPERTECH inlet valve stem seals

    On the high-revving 4A-GE 20V, each of the 12 inlet seals keeps the 5 mm stem under a fine oil film and holds back the surplus. Worn by thousands of heat cycles, it eventually opens up: oil drops between changes, the Corolla or Levin puffs blue smoke from cold or on leaving idle, and deposits spread across valves and plugs.

    SUPERTECH makes this seal in Viton (FKM), sized for a 9.7 mm OD guide around the 5 mm stem. The 12 pieces cover all the inlet valves of a 4A-GE 20V, Silver Top or Black Top; the same VS-TY5E seal also serves on the exhaust, for which SUPERTECH sells a set of 8 separately.

    Inlet or exhaust?

    For the 4A-GE 20V, SUPERTECH makes no distinction between the two sides: a single seal, the VS-TY5E in Viton (FKM), caps the 12 inlet and the 8 exhaust valves, with shared dimensions of 5 mm for the stem and 9.7 mm for the guide. The maker rates this Viton at 204 °C (400 °F) continuous, a useful reserve on the exhaust as on the inlet.
