Each camshaft profile has indeed been developed according to the specific features of each engine, but also according to the intended use (road, sport, rally, drag racing, circuit ...).

Two parameters matter when choosing a camshaft profile: valve lift and angle (opening duration). Longer opening times give more power and torque, while greater lift optimises power at high engine speed.
