Kit of ARP2000 rod bolts replacing the original bolts on the OEM rods of the Honda F20C and F22C four-cylinders (S2000 AP1 and AP2).
The VTEC four-cylinder of the Honda S2000 comes in two capacities: the 2.0-litre F20C (87 mm bore, 84 mm stroke), fitted from 1999 to 2009 to the S2000 AP1, and the 2.2-litre F22C (87 mm bore, 90.7 mm stroke), fitted from 2003 to 2009 to the AP2.
The original connecting rod bolt of both engines carries the reference 13204-PCX-003: Honda prescribes tightening it to 25 Nm then 90° of angle, and it is a single-use bolt.
At every revolution, the rod bolt takes the pull of the rod and piston assembly, which tries to force the cap away through inertia. As original equipment, it is sized for stock power and is replaced at every strip-down.
This kit replaces the original bolt of each rod with an ARP2000 bolt that the ARP instruction sheet has you tighten by stretch, measured with a gauge, the 61 Nm torque being used only when no gauge is available. ARP2000 is an alloy steel developed by ARP and heat treated to 220,000 psi tensile strength; its threads are rolled after heat treatment. Standard engine fasteners commonly fall into classes 10.9 and 12.9, i.e. 150,800 to 176,900 psi minimum strength: ARP2000 sits 24 to 46% above that.
| Part number | Brand | Grade / material | Head | Thread | Under-head length |

The ARP instruction sheet asks for an adequate chamfer around the bolt hole of the rod cap, so that the radius under the head is cleared; the bolt is fitted without a washer.
| Reference | Tightening torque | Stretch |
|---|---|---|
| ARP-208-6002 | 61 Nm | 0.140 - 0.152 mm |
ARP recommends tightening to a measured stretch, which gives a more accurate preload than torque alone, given as a fallback. Torque and stretch figures assume ARP lubricant.

Assembly is done without thread locker, as the ARP instruction sheet calls for none: ARP Ultra-Torque grease is applied to the threads and under the head of each bolt.
The ARP instructions for this kit require the big ends to be checked and resized once the fasteners are fitted: this job belongs to an equipped machine shop.

With the stretch gauge, you read directly how much the bolt stretches during tightening: the dial gauge sits on both ends of the fitted bolt, and tightening stops when the stretch reaches the value in the table. Friction no longer comes into play, hence a more consistent preload on a heavily stressed engine.
Tightening is done with ARP assembly grease, on the threads and under the head: the torque and stretch figures in the table were established with it.
ARP (Automotive Racing Products) came into being in the early 1970s, when Gary Holzapfel, who came from the aerospace industry, decided to tackle the engine failures caused in motorsport by inadequate fasteners. Today the brand produces thousands of part numbers in California for the cylinder head, the main bearings and the connecting rods, in materials suited to each application, with manufacturing known for its consistency.
| Brand | Model (chassis) | Engine code | Power | Years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Honda | S2000 (AP1) | F20C / F20C1 / F20C3 | 231-250 hp | 1999-2009 |
| Honda | S2000 (AP2) | F22C1 | 239-243 hp | 2003-2009 |
OEM reference (rod bolt): 13204-PCX-003
The original rod bolt, taken to its yield point by torque then angle tightening, keeps a permanent stretch. The ARP2000 bolts, reinforced and stronger, withstand higher engine speeds and inertia loads, which reduces the risk of a fastener-related failure and saves a far heavier engine repair.
To complete the bottom-end rebuild, we offer the connecting rod bearings intended for this engine.
