Unlike many of its competitors, which machine their cams from cast steel, CATCAMS cuts its camshafts directly from billet, which makes them considerably more resistant. Most CATCAMS camshafts are hollow in order to reduce their mass.

Two parameters matter when choosing a camshaft profile: valve lift and angle (opening duration). An increase in opening duration allows an increase in power and torque, while an increase in lift optimises power at high revs.
