Unlike many of its competitors, which machine their cams from cast steel, CATCAMS cuts its camshafts straight from billet, which makes them far more resistant. Most of the time, CATCAMS camshafts are hollow in order to reduce their mass.

Two parameters matter when choosing a camshaft profile: valve lift and angle (opening duration). Longer opening times allow an increase in power and torque, while more lift optimises power at high rpm.
