Set of 8 reinforced exhaust valves for the Honda L15A and LEA.
The L15A family covers Honda's 1.5 litre 16-valve four-cylinders; SUPERTECH targets the L15A of the Fit and the LEA version, a single camshaft 1.5 16V fitted to the CR-Z hybrid.
Each engine takes 8 exhaust valves, two per cylinder. With a 23.0 mm head, a 5.46 mm stem and a 117.55 mm overall length they are slim parts that cope badly with extra load or temperature.
Without forced induction, the head metal of an exhaust valve stays between 760 and 870 °C; with a turbo or supercharger it passes 1,000 °C. The seat removes about 75 % of that heat, the guide about 20 %. A steel from the EV8 family offers 550 MPa at 600 °C but no more than 300 MPa at 800 °C: beyond that, the head heats up, fatigues, distorts and ends up seating poorly.
The HEVI-1050-8 is made of Inconel, a nickel-based superalloy: 860 MPa at 732 °C and 554 MPa at 816 °C, about 85 % more than EV8 steel around 800 °C. It keeps its strength where a steel valve starts to give way.
SUPERTECH supplies it in standard size, with a 23.0 mm head: the exhaust seats do not need to be enlarged.
