Here the subject is the exhaust of the 4B11 turbo, the supercharged 2.0-litre engine of the Lancer Evolution X, but also of the Lancer Ralliart and Sportback Ralliart.

A cylinder head has eight exhaust-side guides, covered by a single Mitsubishi code, 1010A164, in oversize only. The FERREA ones offered here can be picked in standard or +0.025 mm.

Next to the burnt gases, the exhaust guide suffers the harshest temperatures. It lines the stem up with the seat, carries the heat built up in the valve towards the head and backs the stem seal. Once worn, the valve lies over, closes poorly and lets oil through: the tailpipe turns blue and compression pressure falls back.

FERREA states that its copper-bronze alloy comes from the United States and receives an in-house heat treatment. The aim: shed heat better, hold up at temperature, delay wear and keep a lubricating film. Close-tolerance CNC cutting makes titanium or stainless steel valves workable. Eight guides make up this kit, the whole exhaust side of a head. It is often paired with reinforced valves.

Standard or oversize?

Exhaust side offers two choices: standard, or enlarged by 0.025 mm, kept for guide seats already reworked, per the readings.
