Applicable Mitsubishi engines

This kit covers the intake of the 4B11 turbo, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder 16-valve unit found in the Mitsubishi Evolution X and in the Lancer Ralliart, saloon or Sportback.

A cylinder head has eight intake-side guides, grouped by Mitsubishi under the single code 1010A164, in oversize only. The FERREA parts shown here are ordered in the normal or the enlarged size.

FERREA copper bronze inlet valve guides

In the head, the intake guide holds the valve stem on the exact axis of its seat. It channels the stem's back-and-forth travel, hands some heat from the stem over to the coolant and backs up the seal. A tired guide lets the valve wander: it seats badly, draws in oil and makes the engine smoke at idle.

FERREA explains that its copper and bronze alloy is made in the United States, then given an in-house thermal process. Announced result: heat removed better, higher temperature endurance, slower wear and a preserved oil film. Very precise CNC work lets titanium or stainless valves be fitted. Eight guides make up the kit, the whole intake side of a complete head. The two sizes are ordered separately, as variants.

Our brand

Born in 1978 in Florida, FERREA designs parts for the valve gear and the cylinder head of racing engines, produced in its own shops in Florida and later in Argentina.

Standard or oversize?

Two stem diameters: standard, or enlarged by 0.025 mm. The second suits a guide bore that was opened up, as the measurement readings show.

When valve guides must be replaced

• Blue smoke at start-up, worn valve stems
• New valves going into a head that has already run
• Competition or rally head needing a refresh
• Valve train fully reset, clearances checked
