ARP2000 connecting rod bolt kit replacing the original bolts on OEM rods of Mitsubishi 4B11T engines.
This kit is intended for the Mitsubishi 4B11T engines, the turbocharged four-cylinder of 2.0 litres with twin overhead camshafts and 16 valves fitted to the Lancer Evolution X.
The original rod bolt gives way to an ARP2000 screw, without washer, which threads into the connecting rod and holds the cap.
At every engine revolution, the rod and piston assembly pulls on the rod cap, and only its bolts hold it against these inertia loads. The original ones are intended for stock power and for a single installation.
The ARP2000 screws in this kit take the place of the original ones; ARP advises tightening to a stretch figure, and gives a fallback torque when it cannot be measured. These bolts are made from ARP2000, an ARP-specific alloy steel heat treated to 220,000 psi tensile strength, with threads rolled once the treatment is complete. Classes 10.9 and 12.9 of standard fasteners start at 150,800 and 176,900 psi: ARP2000 exceeds them by 24 to 46%.

| ARP-207-6002 | 40.7 Nm | 0.165 - 0.178 mm |
ARP recommends tightening to a measured stretch, which gives a more accurate preload than torque alone, given as a fallback. Torque and stretch figures assume ARP lubricant.
Source of the torque and stretch figures: ARP 207-6002 instruction sheet, in the revision applicable at publication. The manufacturer's instruction sheet prevails in the event of any difference. Read the ARP 207-6002 instruction sheet
Assembly is done without thread locker, as the ARP instruction sheet calls for none: ARP Ultra-Torque grease is applied to the threads and under the head of each bolt.
The ARP instructions for this kit require the big ends to be checked and resized once the fasteners are fitted: this job belongs to an equipped machine shop.

Tightening to stretch means setting the preload on how much the bolt actually stretches, rather than on a torque affected by friction. With the bolt fitted, the dial gauge is placed on both its ends and the bolt is tightened until the stretch given in the table is read. It is the safest method on a highly tuned engine.
Torque and stretch figures are only valid with ARP assembly grease, applied to the threads and under the head.
Founded in the early 1970s by Gary Holzapfel, who came from the aerospace sector, ARP (Automotive Racing Products) was born to put an end to fastener-related engine failures in racing. Its thousands of part numbers, designed and manufactured in California for the cylinder head, the main bearings and the connecting rods, come in several materials depending on the application and are recognised for the consistency of their manufacture.
| Brand | Model (chassis) | Engine code | Power | Years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mitsubishi | Lancer Evolution X (CZ4A) | 4B11T | 295 hp | 2008-2016 |
On a turbocharged four-cylinder whose boost keeps rising, every rod bolt works harder in tension; if just one lets go, the rod, the piston and the block are lost. Fitting an ARP2000 kit costs far less than rebuilding a short block.
