Set of 8 exhaust valve guides for the Nissan SR20DET, 7 to 6 mm stem conversion.
The SR20DET is the turbocharged version of Nissan's 2.0 litre four-cylinder, with 16 valves and twin overhead camshafts. This page covers the one fitted to the Sunny GTI-R (N14). Its head holds eight exhaust-side guides.
For the exhaust side of this engine SUPERTECH offers a guide described as a 7 mm to 6 mm stem conversion: its 6 mm bore suits valves with a 6 mm stem, together with the brand's VS-N6E stem seal. The outside diameter reaches 11.03 mm and the length 43 mm. The set gathers the 8 exhaust guides of the head.
On a turbo engine the exhaust valve faces the hottest gases in the head, and its guide must carry part of that heat away to the coolant. Once the guide wears, the stem gains play, the valve lands crooked and oil runs down the stem toward the exhaust: blue smoke, falling oil level, a fouled turbo.
SUPERTECH machines these guides from a manganese bronze whose heat transfer, according to the brand, clearly outperforms the sintered guides originally installed. A guide with a 6 mm bore goes with an exhaust valve with a 6 mm stem and the VS-N6E seal, both to be ordered in addition.

Built on copper with additions of zinc, manganese, iron and aluminium, this alloy stands up well to repeated rubbing and to corrosion. It is used for bushings and guiding parts under heavy loads. This hardness and resistance explain why it is a common choice for valve guides.
