The air-cooled flat-six of the Porsche 911 powered the 2.4-litre cars (1972-1973), then the 2.7-litre range (1974-1977), before gaining forced induction on the 930 Turbo 3.0-litre (1975-1977). This horizontally-opposed six-cylinder architecture, with two-valve heads and a bearing-mounted crankshaft, built Stuttgart’s sporting reputation both in competition and on the road.
As soon as power climbs, the stock connecting rod reaches its limit: higher compression, forced induction or increased engine speed put the rotating assembly under heavy stress. The 930 Turbo in particular imposes very high alternating loads on the big ends. Fitting a set of forged rods restores a mechanical safety margin where the factory part becomes the weak link of the bottom end.
Machined from high-strength 4330M forged steel, these CP-Carrillo rods replace the stock part to push back the failure threshold of the bottom end. Forging aligns the metal grain with the loads, whereas a cast or sintered rod cracks under heavy stress. The fully-machined H-beam profile offers an excellent compromise between bending stiffness and resistance at the high engine speeds typical of the Porsche flat-six.
They suit every discipline where the engine works beyond stock: rally, hill climb, historic racing, drag and high-power turbo builds. Depending on the chosen bolts, the assembly handles anything from a mild Stage 1 to the most extreme Stage 2 and Stage 3, including on the forced-induction 930 Turbo. The complete set of six rods is weight-matched to preserve smoothness and durability.

Carrillo supplies each kit with its own fitting instructions: the tightening torque and recommended bolt stretch for both WMC and CARRILLO bolts are specified there and always take precedence. Assembly is carried out with the supplied assembly lubricant, preferably using the stretch-gauge method, ensuring even preload across the six rods.
| 4330M is a nickel-chrome-molybdenum alloy steel, close to 4340 and refined for motorsport, used by CP-Carrillo on its high-performance rods. Forged then heat-treated, it combines a high yield strength with excellent fatigue resistance, two essential qualities to withstand the alternating loads of a tuned engine. The rod bolt is the most heavily stressed part of the assembly: it holds the cap clamped onto the big end against inertia forces. CP-Carrillo offers two bolt grades for this kit, to be chosen according to the intended level of preparation.

When the bottom end of a classic 911 or a 930 Turbo lets go, the bill for a complete assembly climbs quickly. Rebuilding it with forged rods often costs about the same as a plain set of stock parts, for an incomparable result.
For an equivalent budget, you get an assembly able to withstand tuning, forced induction and higher engine speeds without fear of failure. It is an investment that secures the whole engine, pistons and crankshaft included.
