These seals fit the 5.5 mm stem inlet valves of the Toyota G16E-GTS, a 1.6 litre 12-valve turbocharged three-cylinder used in the Toyota GR Yaris, the GR Corolla and the Lexus LBX Morizo RR.

This engine has 6 inlet valves per cylinder head, two per cylinder. The original seal caps the guide and meters oil along the stem; its Toyota original part number is 90913-02126, 6 seals on the inlet side.

Sitting on the guide, the seal lets through only the thin oil film needed to lubricate the stem; without it, stem and guide wear fast. When it wears out or hardens with heat, oil drops into the combustion chamber: rising oil use, blue smoke at start-up or after extended idling, carbon on valves and plugs.

FERREA makes these seals from Viton (FKM), a rubber that copes with high temperatures, and fits each one with an integrated spring: it presses the lip against the 5.5 mm stem and helps limit oil flow under severe use. FERREA designs and builds its valves, springs, guides and valve stem seals in-house, at plants in Florida and Argentina. Its output serves highly tuned and competition engines, where its Viton seals with integrated spring must stay oil-tight under heavy load.

Inlet or exhaust?

Both FERREA seals of the G16E-GTS are Viton (FKM) and each carries a lip spring, yet they do not swap: VS1038 is for the inlet, VS1037 for the exhaust, whose valves run hotter. FERREA supplies both for a 5.5 mm stem, with the same spring-loaded lip on each. This turbocharged three-cylinder needs 6 seals on the inlet side and 6 on the exhaust side.
