This kit is for the cylinder head of Toyota's 1.6 litre turbocharged three-cylinder, the G16E-GTS, found in the GR Yaris, the GR Corolla and the Lexus LBX Morizo RR. With 12 valves it has six inlet valves, so six guides on this side.

Toyota gives these guides a bore of 5.51 to 5.53 mm, with a factory clearance of 0.025 to 0.060 mm on the inlet. Their original outside diameter is 10.333 to 10.344 mm, and the manufacturer's catalogue lists a 0.05 mm repair size. The exhaust guides are offered on a separate page.

Inlet guides hold the stem square to the seat at each lift, hand back a share of the heat they receive to the head and back up the stem seal. On this small, high-revving turbo the bore soon goes oval: the stem wobbles, the valve lands badly and oil pulled in by the vacuum reaches the chamber, hence blue smoke and falling compression.

FERREA machines these guides from an American copper bronze. Its in-house heat treatment, says the catalogue, helps lubrication of the stem, heat removal, endurance against wear and behaviour at high temperature. CNC machining to tight tolerances suits titanium or stainless steel valves. The kit contains the six inlet guides. Reinforced inlet valves are the usual match.
