The G16E-GTS is Toyota's 1.6 litre, 12-valve turbocharged three-cylinder, with finger followers and hydraulic lash adjusters. It has powered the GR Yaris since 2020, from 261 to 305 hp, and the GR Corolla, from 286 to 305 hp.

Its 6 original inlet valves, Toyota 13711-18010, have a 5.470 to 5.485 mm stem and a 113.63 mm length; collets 90913-03028 hold them. More boost, a bigger turbo or track sessions expose them to more heat and impact.

SUPERTECH and FERREA reinforced inlet valves

Behind the turbo, the inlet valve lets the compressed air through, slams shut on its seat and slides constantly in its guide, at 400 to 550 °C. In that zone the chrome-silicon steel of everyday valves drops from 500 MPa at 500 °C to 250 MPa at 600 °C: it loses 50 % of its strength.

The SUPERTECH TIVN-2033-6, black nitrided EV8 stainless with a dished head, keeps 650 MPa at 500 °C and 550 MPa at 600 °C, 30 % and then 120 % more than that steel. The FERREA F2459P, from the Competition Plus range in stainless with a chrome-plated stem, adds 20 % hot and fatigue strength and extends seat life by 25 %.

Fitting details

Both sets keep the standard size: they fit reconditioned seats with no machining to a new size.

FERREA pairs this engine with its K10121 collets and its VG1123 inlet guide.

Clearance is taken up hydraulically: no adjustment is needed after the valves are replaced.
