Applicable Honda engines

This kit fits the exhaust side of Honda's 2.4-litre K24Z2, K24Z3 and K24Z7: Accord, Civic, CR-V and Odyssey, plus the Acura TSX and ILX.

A 16-valve cylinder head calls for 8 exhaust guides, two per cylinder. For this role Honda lists only the oversize 12205-PNA-305; the FERREA guides in the kit are made for valves with a 5.5 mm stem.

On the exhaust side the guide sits closest to the hot gases: it keeps the stem aligned with its seat, conducts valve heat into the head and seats the stem seal. With wear, the valve rocks and seals poorly: oil seeps along the stem and into the exhaust port while blue haze trails from the tailpipe and compression falls.

The FERREA catalogue describes an American copper and bronze alloy given an in-house heat treatment: heat escapes better, high temperatures are tolerated, wear builds up more slowly and the stem stays better lubricated. Precise CNC machining suits valves made of titanium or stainless steel. This set gathers eight guides, standard size or +0.025 mm.

Standard or oversize?

FERREA supplies the standard size or +0.025 mm (0.001"), the second being kept for guide seats that a reaming job has enlarged.
