Kit of 16 valve guides for VAG 1.8 16V KR and 2.0 16V 9A, ABF, 7 mm stem.
This kit fits the 16-valve cylinder head of the VAG 1.8 and 2.0 litre four-cylinder engines: the 1.8 litre KR of the Golf II GTI 16V, Jetta II, Scirocco, Corrado, Passat and SEAT Toledo, the 2.0 litre 9A of the Golf II, Jetta II, Corrado and Passat, and the 2.0 litre ABF of the Golf III GTI 16V, Passat, Sharan and SEAT Toledo, Ibiza and Cordoba.
These engines use 16 valves with a 7 mm stem, each one sliding in its own guide pressed into the cylinder head. A single SUPERTECH part number serves inlet and exhaust alike, so the kit supplies the 16 guides of a complete cylinder head.
Seated in the cylinder head, the guide keeps the valve well centred over its seat, sends part of the heat picked up by the stem back into the head and carries the stem seal. As it wears, play develops: the valve rocks, its seating becomes uneven, oil runs down the stem and blue smoke, oil consumption and lost compression start to show.
SUPERTECH precision-machines these guides from manganese bronze; according to the brand, this copper alloy dissipates heat far more effectively than the sintered guides fitted in production by car makers. They are most often installed together with reinforced valves. The kit brings together the 16 guides of the head, the same part serving both sides.
