Unlike many of its competitors, which machine their cams from cast steel, CATCAMS cuts its camshafts directly from billet, which makes them far more durable. Most of the time, CATCAMS camshafts are hollow in order to reduce their mass.

Each camshaft profile has been developed according to the specific features of each engine, but also according to the intended use: road, sport, rally, run, circuit and so on.

Two parameters matter when choosing a camshaft profile: valve lift and angle (opening duration). Increasing the opening duration raises power and torque, while increasing lift optimises power at high rpm.
